History
The Codex has evolved a lot over time. The project began in March 2025.
Versions
V1: Version Release
Issued July 2025, featured 20 unique essays. V1 was quite barebones compared to the Codex you see today. It was hosted on a Google Doc instead of this website and PDFs were sent out marking certain versions. The original 20 essays and four categories in V1 were as follows:
Adaptivism: Nonexistent Binaries, A Life Worth Living, The Myth but Necessity of Objectivity, Revising Individualism, Modern Strength
Interpersonal Tensions: Between Mirrors, Between Passions, The Cost of Love, The Fallacy of Equality, Authenticity
Existential Pursuits: Solitude, The Insatiable Horizon, Peace Versus Potential, Can You Outsmart Happiness?, The Price of Knowing
Personal Growth: The Myth of Arrival, Knowledge, From Rules to Rhythm, The Unhero's Journey, Blind Spots
V1.1: Maintenance Update
Issued July 2025. Category overhaul and lots of minor tweaks and adjustments to all of the entries. If you're wondering why I decided to clean things up AFTER releasing V1... you notice the biggest problems right after shipping. The new categories and essay reorganization is as follows:
Intrapersonal Tensions: Can You Outsmart Happiness?, The Price of Knowing
Cognition: Knowledge, From Rules to Rhythm
Introduction of the Appendix (renamed to Discussion in V1.6)
All other entries remained in their existing categories from V1.
V1.2: Content Expansion
Issued July 2025, +3 new entries (23 total). The introduced entries in their respective categories were as follows:
Existential Pursuits: Can't Have It All
Cognition: Systems
Personal Growth: Akrasia
V1.3: Hybrid Update
Issued August 2025. +2 new entries, (25 total) some reformatting, new font, minor fixes and adjustments. For those curious, the font Crimson Pro was used on the Google Doc while Charter is used on this website. The introduced entries in their respective categories were as follows:
Existential Pursuits: In Empty Hands
Intrapersonal Tensions: Anger
V1.4: Hybrid Update
Issued September 2025. Now hosted on this website and +2 new entries (27 total). The website was initially VERY barebones, but it got the job done. Still better than a Google Doc PDF. The introduced entries in their respective categories were as follows:
Interpersonal Tensions: Between Perspectives
Intrapersonal Tensions: Ego
Initially, the Appendix was left out of the website. But it would be ported over in V1.6. Additionally, as a result of now hosting on a website and having the freedom to ship smaller changes, the version system became somewhat arbitrary, and "patches" (smaller, more frequent updates) became far more common. From here on out, versions can largely be considered general landmarks instead of full releases.
V1.5: Content Expansion
Issued December 2025. +2 new entries (29 total) and various website improvements. This version was focused on cleaning up the frontend and backend as well as making the website a lot prettier. It also featured some complex metacognitive theories I developed over the months since the last release. The introduced entries in their respective categories were as follows:
Cognition: Principle Theory
Cognition: The Metacognitive Framework
V1.6: Maintenance Update
Issued February 2026. Featured several frontend website improvements, existing essay rewrites, and major reorganizations and adjustments. Some of the entries with the largets adjustments include:
Interpersonal Tensions: The Cost of Love
Intrapersonal Tensions: Ego
With minor adjustments throughout all other existing entries.
Authorship
The Codex has been written and developed exclusviely by myself, Kyle King. I have synthesized wisdom from philosophical knowledge, psychological knowledge, physiological knowledge, personal experience, peer discussion, and the general trajectory of my life as a whole. I'm not claiming to know all the answers, but I have been writing extensive philosophical accounts for years. The Codex is simply the most organized and professional of those attempts.
If you ask me, we humans are far too focused on the idea of simple answers. We want things to make sense, we want absolute truths, and we generally strive for internal and external coherence. Unfortunately, the world does not give a shit, and coherence will never last due to the fundamental reality of change. As a result, the Codex is focused more on clarifying the questions at hand rather than proposing answers to said questions. A futile effort it might seem to some, but a unique and productive philosophical viewpoint nonetheless.
If you would like to learn more about the Codex, I suggest checking out the Discussion section under the ABOUT tab. If that is not sufficient, I am considering setting up some sort of direct communication with myself if you would like to converse with me directly.
